Cellular Dynamical Mean Field theory [1] is a powerful extension of
the single site DMFT, to capture the effects of short range
correlations. We will review recent results of this approach
applied to the Hubbard model, and how it captures essential aspects
of the physics of the high temperature superconductors [2]. We will
stress the similarities and the differences with an earlier static
mean field approach [3].
